When you mention the name Derrick Johnson in the Chiefs Kingdom it’s obvious that everyone know who you are talking about. For 13 season he graced us with his presence 167 games played, 1,151 tackles (All Time Leader) in Chiefs history 14 interceptions, 4 Td’s and 4 time Pro Bowl Linebacker. Oop’s DJ is gone now, so the focus goes to Reggie. Ragland that is.
Ragland joined the Chiefs last season coming to us from the Buffalo Bills during their restructuring process. Talk about big shoes to fill in the process. Ragland played in 12 games last year and started in 10 of the 12 . He had 31 tackles in those 12 games including 9 solo tackles against Tennessee in the play off loss.
In 2016 Ragland was the 41st pick in the NFL draft by the Buffalo Bills. He was a 2 time National Champion while at Alabama including a consensus All American in 2015 also the 2015 SEC Defensive Player of the Year.
Ragland is the projected starter at inside linebacker to be complimented by Anthony Hitchens, Dee Ford and Justin Houston at the remaining positions. The 24 year old has high expectations and is a proven open field tackler. What do the Chiefs gain? More youth and hopefully a future All Pro.
So we say with a sad heart, good bye DJ, and welcome to the new kid on the block. Hopefully as I said before we will go from Ragland to Riches as the movement continues to grow in the Chiefs Kingdom.
