Dee Ford was held out of team drills on Tuesday with back issues. This isn’t necessarily a terrible thing, but it’s not what you want to see with a player with a history of injuries. Ford is expected to start opposite of Justin Houston this year and is in the final year of his contract. The former first-round pick has shown signs of being a dominant pass rusher but has never stayed fully healthy.
I mean let’s be honest, if Veach wouldn’t have picked up his fifth-year option would any of us be surprised? The pressure of staying healthy isn’t the only one for Ford, as the Chiefs drafted two linebackers this year. Throw in Tanoh Kpassagnon and it’s starting to get a little crowded. If Ford doesn’t have a breakout comeback year, his time in Kansas City will be over.
